Note: Contemporary dog, dressed as a ram--not actual ancient dog or ancient sheep

This New York Times article tells of the discovery of the remains a 9,400 year-old dog. Apparently, graduate scientist Samuel Belknap III discovered the bone fragment while researching the diet and nutrition of the residents of Texas between 1,000 and 10,000 years ago. The article discusses how dogs have been human companions for much longer than we had initially thought, which makes many of dogs natural mannerisms make much more sense. The article takes a dark turn when it reveals that the reason said bone fragment was found by Belknap was because some ancient Texan had eaten and digested the bone fragment, as he was eating the dog.
